Careers and Progression
At Humphry Davy School we strive to achieve the best for all our students during their time with us and even after they leave. Because of this we feel that a strong Careers Education and Guidance Package is vital in enabling our students to progress and achieve whilst at school and to have a clearer idea of their goals and careers in the future.
We offer a Careers Education and Guidance Package that works for students from all year groups to allow them access to a wide range of opportunities to assist them with their careers research and planning. We aim to inspire and motivate our students, to encourage resilience and embrace change, to prepare for adult life and the huge array of opportunities available and give them the skills to make informed decisions so that they are prepared for the ever changing world that we live in.
“Schools should help every pupil develop high aspirations and consider a broad and ambitious range of careers. Inspiring every pupil through more real-life contacts with the world of work can help them understand where different choices can take them in the future.” Careers Guidance and Inspiration in School, Department of Education April 2014.
Our students are actively encouraged to take responsibility for taking a leading role in the life of the school. The Student Council comprises students from each year group and was awarded a Silver PADL Award by Cornwall Council in 2012.
Passionate about making sure their voice is heard both within school and in the local community, the Student Council has strong links with our Head Boy and Girl who are Associate Members, a Link Governor and frequently reports to our Senior Leadership team, enabling regular two-way contact between staff and students at a leadership level.
Both Student Council and our other Student leaders, Including Music Scholars, Lead Learners, International Prefects and our House-based Prefects and Captains are very proud to be appointed to their roles following a rigorous application process. The Head Boy and Girl and their Deputies are influential leaders in the school – positive role models for younger students and superb ambassadors who, together with other school leaders, regularly provide feedback to the Head regarding key issues such as the appointment of new staff and representing the school locally, nationally and internationally. We are proud to elect student leaders from every year group in the school, building on the excellent practice of our Year 6 students at their Primary Schools and enabling our students to have a real impact in the development of the life of the school.
